Botshabelo (meaning 'place of refuge’) is the second largest township in South Africa; second only to Soweto; and was established in 1979 by the previous government as an informal settlement for non-tswana speaking people. It is situated on the Lesotho road 65km east of Bloemfontein. Since 2000 the town has been part of the Mangaung Municipality. The town was once under the leadership of Dr TK Mopedi, king of the Basotho in Qwa Qwa which was at that time an independent state.

The buzz of Botshabelo must be in the comings and goings of its inhabitants and their daily lives.
