Luckhoff - Xhariep - Free State - South Africa

Luckhoff lies on the R48, 50km south of Koffiefontein and is situated close to the Van Der Kloof Dam (Orange River) and the Rolfontein Nature Reserve. This small, idyllic town offers a lifestyle or a visit at an `alternative' pace, and allows you to stop and experience the beauty.


The town was established on the farm Koffiekuil (`coffee pool') in 1892 and named for the Rev H.J. Luckhoff, Dutch Reformed minister of Fauresmith when the new congregation was formed.

Activities

Dutch Reformed Church
100 years old (1892) , build out of stones from the area. In front of the City Hall stands a gas lamp that was used as a streetlight in earlier years.

Gunpowder houses from the Anglo-Boer War Monument - Commemorating the Groot Trek, +/- 3 km outside the town on the Fauresmith road.
Primary School - 100 years old
"Ossewa" tracks dating from the Groot Trek in front of the school.
Rolfontein Nature Reserve - Unique succulents are found in the area.

Unique weather rock at the entrance of the town.
Greenhouse - On Deelfontein farm Oranges on the farm Dundee, known as the sweetest oranges in the region.
