About the Free State Tourism Authority

The Free State Tourism Authority (FSTA), contains an array of useful information on the beautiful province of the Free State and is responsible for the development, promotion and marketing of tourism into and within the Free State province. The Authority’s statement of intent and direction is drawn from the mandate vested in the Organization by the Free State Tourism Authority Act 3, 2005.

Prior to 1994, tourism marketing was a function of national government. However, following the installation of a democratic national government in that year, this responsibility was devolved to the provinces. Provinces are now responsible for both tourism product development and the marketing of their regions both domestically and internationally. At the national level the Department of Tourism and Environmental Affairs utilises South African Tourism as its marketing arm with its role to market the country generically to international markets.

The objective of the Free State Tourism Authority is to ensure:

The efficient and effective marketing of tourism within the Free State Province

• The promotion of tourism within the Free State Province
• The development and management of sustainable tourism within the Province
• To promote participation of Small to Medium Size Enterprises (SMME’s) in the tourism industry in the Free State Province
• For the registration of hotels, restaurants, other accommodation establishments, conference centres and tourist amenities
• For the Licensing and registration of hotels and other accommodation establishments, restaurants, tour operators, tour guides and designated tourist amenities

VISION

The Vision of the Free State Tourism Authority is for the Free State to be recognised as a preferred inland tourism destination and an essential part of the foreign tourist's itinerary during their visit to South Africa.

MISSION 

The Mission of Free State Tourism Authority is to represent all our key stakeholders and customers, be they public, private or community based participants within the tourism sector, to ensure that they achieve their objectives of sustainable prosperity for the overall benefit of the Free State Economy.
